SICK — Safety Relays
The Sick UE48-2OS is a specialized safety relay designed to interface with safety light curtains, safety laser scanners, and other OSSD-output guarding devices. It provides two safe semiconductor OSSD (Output Signal Switching Device) outputs that mirror the state of the connected safety sensor, delivering SIL 3 (IEC 62061) / PL e (ISO 13849-1) performance without the arcing and wear associated with mechanical relay contacts. The relay evaluates both OSSD channels with cross-circuit and short-circuit detection, automatically entering the safe state if differential faults are detected. An integrated EDM (External Device Monitoring) input verifies that downstream contactors or valves have de-energised correctly when the safety demand is active. Compact 22.5 mm housing and tool-removable plug-in terminals simplify installation and maintenance, while multi-colour LEDs provide clear diagnostic feedback for troubleshooting without a multimeter.
